Joe Allen: social media judges his form

Wales international Joe Allen has said that he does not need to look into social media to know how he has performed during the early stages of the campaign. The midfielder made the surprise decision to stay put with the Potters rather than pursue a return to the Premier League this summer and he has since not produced the performance the fans would have expected from him.
Speaking to reporters, Allen admitted that he has not been in the best of form since the Championship season begun and hopefully, his match-winning goal against former club Swansea City can spark the turnaround required for the Potters and himself, he said: “I don’t think anyone would be surprised if they’d seen me play so far this season. It’s not been a great start from myself.
“Hopefully that performance against Swansea will kick start a better run of form from my point of view. I don’t do social media and all that but I know myself when I play well and I know when I don’t, it’s as simple as that. You have runs of form when you have ups and downs, every player does. This is one of those times when it’s not been a great start to the season for me but slowly I think the form is turning and hopefully that will be a big help for the team moving on.”
Allen was one of the leading performers for the Potters during the previous campaign but his efforts were not sufficient enough to prolong the club’s decade-long stay in the top-flight. Thereafter, there were suggestions that Allen could secure a return to the Premier League but he surprisingly decided to commit his future to the club with a new four-year contract.
Stoke have since produced an average showing on their Championship return but the midweek win over Swansea would surely have provided a much-needed boost for the forthcoming games. Gary Rowett’s side are presently placed 17th on the standings with nine points, four adrift of the play-off positions.
