Ashley Williams prepared to fight for his Stoke City career

Stoke City defender Ashley Williams has said that he is prepared to fight for his position at the Potters despite dropping down the pecking order in recent months. The Wales international has not started for the Championship outfit since the beginning of February with Ryan Shawcross and Danny Batth being the outright picks for the central defensive duties.
He said: “It’s frustrating that I’m not playing at Stoke, but I’ll just try and keep doing the best I can. I want to play and I’ll work hard and get back in the team, same here (with Wales) as well. It’s something that happens to every footballer at some point. I’ve been fortunate that it hasn’t happened up to me until now, but whatever’s required, I know only one way to go about my business. That’s to go to work every day and that’s what I’ll continue to do.”
Williams’ reduced gametime at the club level has likewise hampered his performances at the international level and he was recently dropped to the bench for the European qualifier against Slovakia. Still, manager Ryan Giggs has assured that the veteran remains the captain of the team and it remains to be seen whether he can regain the head coach’s confidence.
Elsewhere, Stoke are pretty much out of the playoff hunt after dropping 10 points behind the top six with eight games to play. Despite this, manager Nathan Jones has stated that the team won’t just let the season cease and the forthcoming matches could make or break the futures of several players within the squad.
